What is Advancing Whyalla?
Advancing Whyalla is a group of residents who are making positive
changes to the community.
Where is Advancing Whyalla based?
Advancing Whyalla is based in the City of Whyalla,
which is located on the western side of the Upper Spencer Gulf of South
Australia. We
like to describe it to visitors as where the outback meets the sea! Click
to find out more about the City
of Whyalla.

What does it mean to be a member?
Group members work on projects that benefit Whyalla.
A project is a task, activity, or issue that the group has identified,
which they believe can be enhanced or improved.
Care is taken not to duplicate what other community
or business organisations are doing.
Project groups are
established to undertake specific projects or activities. Any new ideas or projects can fit into any of the existing
working groups, or a new group may be formed. Our current projects fall
broadly in the following areas,
Leadership, Human Services, Eco City, Renewable industries, Pride &
Tourism.
Members are invited to attend as many meetings as
they wish, and participate in projects as they are able. Of course, it is
always good to meet regularly as a group, so members are encouraged to
attend as often as possible.
Who can join?
Anyone can! Most members of Advancing Whyalla live
in Whyalla itself, but there are some members that live outside the area
and receive our regular mail-outs & newsletters. Your support is
welcome at any level that you are able to participate.
Why not contact us now for a membership form? Click

We are not an elite group, but we do have a common
goal - to promote and advance our city, in a positive and dynamic way! We
are a group of residents who are pooling our ideas and resources to create
a better City for all to enjoy. Even if you just have an idea that you
think would benefit Whyalla, but are not sure who to tell or how to go about
getting it into action, just let us know and we will try to work with you
to make it happen.
Welcome from the
Vice-President
Hi, and welcome to Advancing Whyalla's web site. We hope you find
information that is of value to you and that you may be encouraged
(if not already a member) to join us and help make Whyalla an even better
place in which to live, work, play or retire. I'm not a long-time resident
of Whyalla (I arrived on a 3yr contract in 1987 and am still here) but
I've come to enjoy the relaxed life-style, the friendly people and a
way-of-life that is not easily found in big cities.
If like me, you also enjoy this city but feel that there may be things
that you can contribute to make it even better, please contact our
coordinator (details below) or feel free to contact me for an informal
chat about our group. I'm more than happy to speak with you and
there will be no obligation to join us.
If you are new to our city, a group like ours can often help with the
transition into the local community. One of our recent projects, the
"Whyalla Wellness Guide" has extensive information to help you with
the critical, essential and useful information necessary for integration
into the local environment.
I look forward to our future together - help us to make a difference.
Regards
Russell Bambridge
Vice-President
